650 or 657 Remote Control Upgrade. 
This upgrade is done at the factory to the player and increases the sensitivity and effective angle of operation of the remote control.  Since the granite faceplate is 1/2" thick, it creates a bit of a tunnel for the remote's beam.  This upgrade reduces the tunnel effect so the remote will operate even at extreme wide angles to the CDP.  All new models shipped after January 20, 2002 have this upgrade.

650 or 657 Change Granite Color.
This change involves installing a different color granite faceplate on the CDP.  There are six colors available.  The customer will retain the original faceplate along with the new one.  We recommend having this change made at the factory, but it can also be done by a qualified technician outside the factory.

650 Volume Control.
This upgrade is done at the factory.  It ads a manual volume control to the output of the #650.  The control is on the back of the player and includes an extra set of RCA output jacks that are controlled by the volume control.  Since the control is on the back, it's not readily accessible for constant use in some installations.

657 Tube Impedance Modification.
This modification is done at the factory.  It consists of a circuit modification to the tube section only.  We increase the input and output impedance of the tube section.  This will reduce the noise floor on noisy 6DJ8 tubes by as much as 30dB.  The benefit is that the customer can use a wider variety of brands and vintages of 6DJ8 tubes to fine-tune the sonics of their 657 CDP to their own particular tastes without being limited to high-quality low-noise tubes, like the ones supplied by the factory on new units.  Many NOS 6DJ8 tubes may be highly microphonic but also have other desirable sonic characteristics.  Without the 657 Impedance Modification, these microphonic tubes may be too noisy to enjoy their other sonic benefits.  One other benefit of the Impedance Mod is a slightly extended and flatter bass response in situations where the customer is using a power amp or preamp, other than the Granite Audio Model 770, 860 or 861,  that has a low input impedance.  Other than cost, there's no reason not to get this mod.  It does not reduce the great dynamic performance of the 657 and may improve it's sound in certain cases.  All new 657's shipped after May 5, 2002 have this modification.

650 to 657 Tube Conversion Upgrade.
This modification is done at the factory.  Any Model 650 can be converted to a 657 Tube CDP.  This upgrade includes the Remote Control Upgrade, Volume Control Upgrade, and Impedance Modification.  It consists of adding an additional transformer for the tube section, additional toggle power switch for the tube section, tube section PCB, the same basic power supply that is used in our $4,000.00 Model 770 Preamp, 6X4 rectifier tube, 2  low-noise low-distortion 6DJ8 tubes, manual volume control on back, and extra output RCA jacks for tube section output.  Click HERE to view how this looks on the back of your #650 CDP.
